I’ve used these before I started in the industry at 15 years of age and I like there pans, but when I started working in the industry I always thought Lodge was nothing. Just because it didn’t have coated color, but the results are the same in cooking I mean if you are getting this as a gift. Heck if this was me I would spray then write on it with sharpie ( which would last a couple wash) and say it’s Le Creuset,
But seriously the difference between the 2
Le Creuset and Lodge is that creuset has a pouring area, where lodge is all rounded pan which makes annoying for some people, me personal I don’t care as long as I get the same results with my food I’m dandy.
Cleaning this SOB
Let me tell you right off the bat! I hate cleaning both of these… That’s why I have my girlfriend; ERIN! if that really worked…. I digress. Cleaning them and re-seasoning them, thats annoying but thats me. If you have this as option at work, what I would do so I wouldn’t have to clean it I would clean this person’s entire area so I didn’t have to clean them, but if you are at home… Yikes! You’re screwed mate! Well if you had to clean and reseason 20 of these a day, I bet you would feel the same way thats why you see me use stainless steel pans, which is another topic for another time.
Lodge, I know that brand right?
We all have seen these pans everywhere, at camping stores to Target and especially Cabela’s. The one problem I have found is that rusts much quicker, but that due to human error. I can personally say I haven’t done this, but new cooks might do this, which isn’t a big deal just oil it and rub it off with a paper towel. cast about $15 to $20 dollars
What about the rubber handles for these pans?
I’m not going to mention what place did this… but when we get new pans or some reason we get the handles for the lodge the guys would burn them on the stove and say it’s not a virgin anymore. I asked them why they did that and the reason behind was because a cook caught the rubber on fire and got on his hand. My reasoning is I’ve seen these fly right off the pan whilingcooking something and dropped the entire pan of food. My advise just use a towel or oven mit. If you know you are not planning on putting them in the oven and you just want it for comfort heck why not?
If you really want to get a Le creuset
My suggestion is be patience wait until May and June thats when you will see deals for the pans for me I go to the outlet stores where I brought these pans for 70% off.
A benefited when you have seasoned the pan correctly
Being able to use less oil( which you already did you season the oil) and this pan just works as well as a teflon pan.
